Anima Domus opened its first store in Miami’s affluent Coral Gables area in 1998 with the mission of providing impeccable design, unwavering quality, and unbeatable value to our clientele.
The origin of Anima Domus is a journey that started in Brazil. Our founders, husband and wife Marconi and Silvia Naziazeni, were raised in the country’s most contemporary city, Brasília, amid the provocative and captivating work of that prolific Modernist master, Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.
In Brazil, Marconi was a businessman in the tech field. Silvia was a gifted architect and interior designer. When the couple moved to Miami in 1996, they decided to unite their contrasting skill sets and their inherent love for contemporary design. They would launch a showroom dedicated to bringing the world’s finest home furnishings to South Florida.
With the concept and values of the company established, the business needed a name that would represent who we truly are.
In Latin, “Anima Domus” means “the spirit of the home” or “the essence of your home.”
True to those words, Anima Domus, the company, is not about the product that our clients buy, but rather, the stories and memories that can be built around it. The name conceived in 1998 still represents what the company is today.
Soon after launching, Anima Domus established a partnership with one of the top Italian manufacturers in the industry: Porada. We are proud to say that, as of today, Porada is still our longest-running collaborator.
That partnership became a pivotal moment for our Italian identity, as other great Italian manufacturers signed with Anima Domus, making us a multi-brand showroom and allowing us to provide our clients with complete design concepts. Over the years we continued — and still continue — to add partnerships with other iconic brands, such as Driade, Poltrona Frau, Presotto Italia, FIAM, Flos, Arflex, Bonaldo, Tonon, and many others.
In the early 2000s, the company grew its projects department and design staff to be able to fully fulfill the technical needs of our clients, whether homeowners (end users) or trade (Architects and Interior Designers). Likewise, as South Florida grew, so did we. In 2004, Anima Domus opened its second location in Aventura. That addition made us more accessible to our clients throughout the area and beyond Miami.
In 2009, in response to new housing trends and the need for smarter and more functional concepts of space, Anima Domus became the exclusive distributor for Clei, manufacturer of contemporary convertible beds that are the pinnacle of comfort and seamless design.
With the resurgence of the Miami Design District, in 2010 Anima Domus relocated its original Coral Gables showroom to that flourishing area in order to better serve clients and the trade. Our most recent showroom that was opened in July 2015 is currently our largest store, showcasing a vast selection of products and concepts, providing visitors with a more complete and immersive design experience.
As a local company, it has always been our philosophy to support our local community and organizations. From actively participating in the local cultural events such as Art Basel to hosting lectures and exhibitions at our showrooms, Anima Domus constantly strives to bring content and culture to South Florida.
Our company’s 18-year history demonstrates that the difference between dreaming and doing is having the right partner along the way. Following the Italian tradition of a family business, in 2014 we grew our roots with the addition of Victor — Silvia and Marconi’s son — to the Anima Domus team. From a two-person company to a 20+ person company.
From deliveries in the family van to a private warehouse, crew and trucks. Anima Domus is an ongoing success story. We hope you will keep joining us on our journey in bringing the best of Made in Italy design to your home.
