Our designer feature this month is with the creative Andrea Cardenas from Karde Designs.
Specializing in high-end residential projects, Karde Designs provides personalized service that goes beyond conventional design solutions. By creating a strategy that focuses on each client’s individual tastes, they are able to design remarkable environments that surpass expectation. Karde Designs is led by Andrea Cardenas, a Miami based interior designer from Bogota, Colombia. Andrea completed her BFA in interior design at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.
Our recent project with Karde Designs is the perfect example of using creative design elements to compose a gorgeous space, tailored to the client’s needs. The 900 Project is a residence in one of Downtown Miami’s prominent skyscrapers for a young professional who receives frequent visits from his relatives from South America. The client wanted a space that would feel contemporary and elegant, all the while, cozy and welcoming for his visiting family.
“We selected modern furniture with soft colors because we wanted to play with strong wall coverings like real wood and wallpapers,” explains Andrea.
The use of a natural texture such as wood adds a depth to the aesthetic of the space. The neutral palette you see in the living room, using the white Focus sofa and taupe Tuliss by Anima Domus, emphasizes the wood paneling and the gorgeous view of the Biscayne Bay.
The open floor-plan and naturally lit rooms allow the spaces to interact with each other quite nicely and amplifies the whole living area. While designing the apartment, one can notice that Andrea was able to bring all of the elements together into one uniform concept. The walnut legs of the Porada Infinity dining table tie into the paneling that is seen throughout the living room and kitchen. The glass table top and the large floor-to-ceiling windows accentuate the gorgeous Miami background and bring a sense of levity to the space. The reflective luminaire picks up the beauty that surrounds it and paints a panoramic view of both the interior and the exterior of the unit.
Those mindful details make an enormous difference in the overall feel of the environment.
Each bedroom in the home incorporates different elements that give the apartment a comfortable look; embracing contemporary design without being cold. The large modular Vintage bed in the master bedroom with plush cushions overlooking the water is the perfect example of contemporary and cozy!
Andrea also placed the Tango space saving solution by CLEI to allow the home to be utilized in a more intelligent way!
Saving the best for last, the foyer of this charming apartment is truly the space that steals the spotlight! Andrea uses bold and striking pieces that really make the entrance to this home remarkable.
“We selected dramatic elements but making sure they did not take importance away from each other and lost their unique elegance. We used a dark wallpaper to give life and prominence to each element,” says Andrea.
Please note the Lou Read chair by Phillipe Starck and the Vu mirror by Giovanni T. Garattoni –a combination that is to die for.
We asked the Andrea @ Karde Designs to give us some tips!
1. No need to match patterns perfectly. Contrasting colors and prints creates a unique vibe.
2. Try to think global – think about how the whole room works, furniture, wall colors, down to the tiniest little piece of art you will show case in the space.
3. Never forget that Interior Design is to make the best possible use of the available space.
